Over a 70-year journey (1956–2026), the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has grown from evacuation classes amid the flames of war into a modern teaching and research institution, holding a leading role in the nation's Electrical and Electronic Engineering field.

Foundation
Hanoi University of Science and Technology was founded on 6 March 1956; the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (code H2) was one of its first faculties — the predecessor of today's School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

1965–1974
Wartime evacuation
During the bombing campaign, teachers and students relocated their training facilities to evacuation zones, building their own shelters along the Kỳ Cùng River and sustaining teaching and research under harsh conditions.

1967
Computer Engineering specialisation
The Computer Engineering specialisation was established. In 1968 the faculty received the Minsk-22 computer — one of the most advanced computers in North Vietnam at the time.

1969
First wireless television
On 15 August 1969, a research team successfully trial-broadcast the first wireless television system, laying the foundation for Vietnam's television industry.

The School model

Notable scientific and technological achievements
Many works by generations of teachers and students are tied to the nation’s milestones:
GK1 project: research on clearing naval mines and magnetic bombs during the resistance war against the United States.
500kV North–South transmission line: contributed to the technical calculation and assessment, and first proposed unifying the power systems of the three regions.
Computer Engineering: mastered and operated the Minsk-22 computer (1968).
Television: successfully trial-broadcast the first wireless television system (1969).
Invention: successfully developed a digitally-controlled excitation cabinet for hydropower generators (patented).
